System requirements for Office 2010
This article describes the system requirements for the Microsoft Office 2010 suites. A hardware upgrade should not be necessary when you upgrade to Office 2010 from Microsoft Office 2003 or the 2007 Microsoft Office system. However, you might have to upgrade to a supporting operating system. If you upgrade to Office 2010 from Microsoft Office 2000 or Microsoft Office XP, you must ensure that the hardware and operating system meet the minimum system requirements for the Office 2010 suites.

Plan Trusted Locations settings for Office 2010
If you want to differentiate safe files from potentially harmful files, you can use the Trusted Locations feature in Microsoft Office 2010. The Trusted Locations feature lets you designate trusted file sources on the hard disks of users' computers or on a network share. When a folder is designated as a trusted file source, any file that is saved in the folder is assumed to be a trusted file. When a trusted file is opened, all content in the file is enabled and active, and users are not notified about any potential risks that might be contained in the file, such as unsigned add-ins and Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) macros, links to content on the Internet, or database connections

Choose the 32-bit or 64-bit version of Microsoft Office
By default, Microsoft Office 2010 installs the 32-bit version of Office 2010 even if your computer is running 64-bit editions of Windows. Important The 32-bit version of Office 2010 is the recommended option for most people, because it prevents potential compatibility issues with other 32-bit applications, specifically third-party add-ins that are available only for 32-bit operating systems. Office 2010 provides support for the 32-bit version of Office 2010 programs running on 64-bit operating systems by using WOW64, a compatibility environment provided by the operating system that allows a 32-bit application to run on a Windows 64-bit operating system. Using the 32-bit version of Office 2010 allows people to continue to use existing third-party add-ins for Office that are 32-bit. Note If you already have a 64-bit version of Office installed on your computer running a 64-bit operating system, the default installation is the 64-bit version of Office.
